Step into the Pivot-Being Your Own Advocate
Recently, I was privileged to be interviewed by Theresa Conti and Ivana Polonijo for their Step into the Pivot podcast. While I haven’t known Theresa and Ivana for very long, I have known Theresa’s husband, Peter, through business for 25 years. He has always referred to me as the ‘other’ Teresa. These amazing women empower people to tell their stories and create a platform for others to share their experiences and learn from them.
When I listened to it, I cringed because I can’t stand the sound of my own voice. There’s another thing I need to get over. But once I got past that, the discussion brought me right back to when all of this was going down. While it was painful then, the learning experience from it was priceless. Now, I help others show their worth.
Each day, I hear about more layoffs in our industry, and there will be more. It’s not the end of the world, even though it may feel like it at the time, particularly if you are later in your career. Whether you are voluntarily moving on or shoved out the door, look at it as a gift to start over and seek out a role that plays to your strengths and gives you joy. We have learned a lot through our experiences. Each one is a stepping stone to who we are today and what we can offer to an organization that values what we bring to the table.
Even if you aren’t in transition, my story offers a valuable lesson about knowing your worth and ensuring others do as well.
