Be Like Betty

We lost the beloved Betty White on New Year’s Eve 2021. Just two and a half weeks shy of her 100th birthday. An unfortunate close to another challenging year. The self-described “lucky old broad” wasn’t that at all. Betty White was not only funny and had impeccable comedic timing, but she didn’t take herself too seriously. She broke barriers and defied expectations in a very male-oriented industry all while having an irresistible playful side to her that included making fun of herself to get a laugh and make a point.

What really made her so special was that she was a “cockeyed optimist”. Her words. She said that it takes too much energy to be negative. No truer words were ever spoken.

As we launch into this new year full of unknowns, we can fret about Covid and about what the real estate market is going to do. Or we can plan out our strategy and forge ahead and take everything in stride. If we have learned anything recently, it is having a strategy is critical, but being able to pivot when the strategy no longer works, is key. By looking for the positive in each situation no matter how dire it seems at the moment, we can use the lessons we have learned along the way to adapt to whatever is thrown at us. Our passion for our work will lead us through any challenge and force us to look at every situation from a new perspective.

There will be losses and uncertainty as there are every year, but in the last couple of years, it seems we have felt the losses collectively on such a grand scale. It is a rare occurrence in history that everyone in the world is affected by. The imprint left by Betty White is surely one of those events. Here’s to a bright and shiny new year living like Betty. Happy New Year!

“Everybody needs a passion. That’s what keeps life interesting. If you live without passion, you can go through life without leaving any footprints.”
—Betty White, actress, comedian, activist, game lover, author, philanthropist.
